Meditation from Fr. Thomas Keating OCSO |

Interior Silence Amid Distraction?
The best response to the ordinary wanderings of the imagination is to ignore them; not, however, with a feeling of annoyance or anxiety, but with one of acceptance and peace.
Every response to God, whatever it is, must begin with the full acceptance of reality as it acctually is at the moment. Since it is part of our nature to have a wandering imagination, however much you might want to be quiet, accept the fact that thoughts are certain to come.
The solution is not to try to make the mind a blank. That is not what interior silence is.

| S. Vivian Kovar OSB Dies at Age 85 |
|
S. Vivian Kovar OSB died Dec. 16, 2008, after a brief illness. She was 85 years old, having lived her monastic profession for 63 years.
S. Vivian entered the Schoalsticate in 1943 at St. Benedict's in St. Joseph, Minnesota. After her first vows in 1945, she began a diversified career in health care, teaching, parish ministry, secretarial work, pastoral care and her last great love, reflexology.
As a charter member of the monastery, she arrived in St. Paul in 1948 with 177 other Benedictines and enjoyed a variety of interests, including reading and jigsaw puzzles.
Her funeral was celebrated Saturday with Sisters, families, Oblates, and friends in the Monastery chapel. |

Crossing the Threshold with S. Carol Rennie and Mary Martin
ANGELS are the guardians of hope and wonder. Come and join Mary and I in our annual retreat called CROSSING THE THRESHOLD.
This year we will celebrate ANGELS as our secret companions and liberators. One of the poverties of modern life is the loss of belief in the presence of angels. Your angel is wedded to the dream and possibility of your life, and wishes to keep your life from becoming imprisoned.
In our time together it is our hope that your angel will become the threshold and guide to deeper dimensions that are already stirring in your soul. Our retreat is helped by the writings of John O'Donohue, Meister Eckhart and Anselm Gruen.
This year's Crossing the Threshold has particular significance, because it will be the last in the existing building as the Sisters prepare to move into the new monastery in February 2009.
